Hugo Keleti (19*-1980). Hungarian born showman and a prominent theatrical agent.

Biography

His daughter was singer and actress Eve Boswell, who was to make a name for herself overseas. He passed away in 1980, shortly after his wife Lucy.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

After closing down his popular variety venue, the Plastic Theatre in Northcliff, he opened a new theatre inside Joubert Park circa 1957. His Variety Under the Stars series at the Plastic Theatre showcased light local entertainment with Bill Brewer acting as compere. He presented Britain’s biggest entertainment agency, the Grade Organisation. He booked British artists such as vocalist Alma Cogan and Dickie Valentine for variety shows presented by Pieter Toerien and Basil Rubin circa 1963.
