Biography
Youth
Born in the mid fifties and grew up in Johannesburg, Gauteng. Gustav comes from an artistic family: his father, the late Pieter Hauptfleisch, being a well-known and loved stage and radio actor of the 1970’s, his mother (Marie Schutte) is a published author and his brother Konrad Hauptfleisch sang opera.
Training
Career
He is a member of the Institute of Marketing Managers, spent 10 years with Liberty Life’s Franchise division and is now the Group CEO of Knights Insurance Brokers, an insurance company formed by the SACBC and the Knights of Da Gama.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Following in his father's footsteps, Gustav has a passion for radio work and as a youngster performed in a number of Springbok Radio daily soap operas, including the role of "Rudi" in Die Banneling. He was also involved with the SABC as a voice artist in the early days of television when overseas programmes were dubbed into Afrikaans.
He then became a volunteer with Radio Veritas, presenting a weekly programme "Ons Praat Afrikaans" ("We speak Afrikaans"). Gustav coined the phrase: "Die Goeie Nuus se Beurt" ("The Good News's Turn") as the slogan of Radio Veritas. His programme focused on issues of a Christian nature, and featured features South African artists doing work in Afrikaans. His music was sponsored by Gospel Direct.
