L'Homme Gris

L'Homme Gris ("The grey man") is a comedy in three acts by Jean Marie Théodore Baudouin (called d'Aubigny, 1786-1866)[1] and Adolphe Poujol (1811-1898)[2].

First performed at the Théatre Royal de l’Odéon in Paris on 23 September 1817.

Published by Mad. Ladvocat, Paris, 1817.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Dutch as De Grijze man, of De Rondborstige ("The grey man, or the frank one (man)") by "P.L." (P. Lemarque). Also written De Gryze man, of De Rondborstige (e.g. in Afrikaans by Bosman, 1928), or referred to simply as De Rondborstige.

Published in Amsterdam by Wed. H. van Kesteren en zoon, 1817.

Performance history in South Africa

1825: Performed in Dutch as De Gryze man, of De Rondborstige by Tot Nut en Vermaak in the African Theatre on 16 April 1825, as afterpiece to Pamela, of De Zegepraal der Onschuld (Richardson/Pelletier Volméranges)
