The Fugard Festival is held for one weekend annually, since 2009, in the village of Nieu-Bethesda in the Eastern Cape, where Athol Fugard used to live and where he wrote many of his plays. In Nieu Bethesda is also Helen Martin's Owl House [1], made world-famous by Fugard's play The Road to Mecca.
