The National Community Theatre for Education and Development Network (NACTED)

NACTED Conference 2002

NACTED hosted a conference at the Market Theatre in 2002 which dealt with questions such as the progress made since the work of the Arts and Culture Task Group (ACTAG), funding at national, provincial and local levels, the present crisis in theatre management and spaces, etc. There were representatives from theatre organisations such as PAWE, PANSA and the Southern African Theatre Initiative (SATI), as well as from the Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology (DACST), and it was a useful exercise in reflecting on the current state of affairs within the performing arts. There was a recurring call for a national conference on the performing arts to address the challenges facing the sector, and to plan strategies over the next few years, to ensure the improvement and growth of the sector.
