The organisation
A co-ordinating body set up in the 1980s to deal with joint issues of the five state funded Performing Arts Councils in South Africa. Have also found references to it as the South African Co-ordinating Council of Performing Arts Councils. (SACCPAC??), though this appears unlikely, since the acronym used all along seems to have been SACPAC
The Afrikaans version of the acronym is SAKRUK.
The SACPAC Prize or SACPAC Award
A prize instituted in 1984 by SACPAC to encourage local playwriting by new as well as established playwrights. The prize is awarded to the author of the play judged to be the most suitable for staging with the highest dramatic merit and literary value. The reward was a large cash prize plus production of the winning plays by the five Performing Arts Councils.
The prize was first awarded to Pieter Fourie for Die Koggelaar, award year 1985.
Comrades by Victor Gordon, A Party for Mother by Damon Galgut, award year 1986.
In 1990 the Orange Free State section was won by Kloue.
