Golden Boy is a play by Clifford Odets[1].
The original text
A play about a boxer, it was first produced by The Group Theatre in 1937 and made into a film starring William Holden in 1939.
South African productions
1940: First produced in South Africa at the Pioneer Theatre, Johannesburg, directed and designed by Leo Kerz.
1947 Produced by Henry Gilbert with British professional lightweight boxing champion Eric Boon in the lead (his first and the last time as actor) and Gay Gibson. This was the last production to be performed at The Standard Theatre in Johannesburg.
