Absence of a Cello (sometimes The Absence of a Cello) is a 1964 Broadway comedy written by American screenwriter and novelist Ira Wallach (1913—1995) [1].
Translations and adaptations
The play was rewritten and the setting changed to England in 1968 - it opened in the West End in London in October under the title Out of the Question.
Performance history in South Africa
197*: The adaptation Out of the Question was staged by The Brian Brooke Company, directed by Brooke, with Olive Bodill (Celia Pilgrim), John Hayter (Andrew Pilgrim), Gay Lambert (Marian Jellicoe), Patricia Sanders (Emma Littlewood), Michael Brooke (Peter Littlewood) and Angus Neill (Otis Clifton). Designed by Elizabeth MacLeish.
