The original text
Based on a French original by J.A. Jacquelin. Apparently, according Charles Etienne Boniface (cit. Bosman, 1928: p 276), the French play was itself a parody of Voltaire's five act tragedy Tancrède.
The Dutch text was published anonymously in Amsterdam by Pieter Johannes Uylenbroek, in 1799.
