American comedy horror rock musical, by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman. Premièred Off-Off-Broadway in 1982.

Original play
A play about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh. Written by Howard Ashman, composed by Alan Menken, it opened Off-Off-Broadway in 1982 and then moved to the Off-Broadway Orpheum Theatre, where it played for more than five years.

The cast: Stella Khumalo, Connie Chiume, Mandisa Dlanga, Graham Clarke, Victor Melleney, Andre Hattingh, Eddie Eckstein, Michael Blaise, Mike Huff. Set designed by Edward T. Gianfrancesco, associate producer Richard Loring, choreography by Wendy de la Harpe, lighting and production management by Jannie Swanepoel.
