("The brothers") A play performed in Dutch in Cape Town by Tot Nut en Vermaak on 15 August, 1818.
The origin of the play is not certain, though F.C.L. Bosman (1928: p. 133) suggests this is either a translation of a play by Von Kotzebue, (unnamed - possibly Bruderzwist, oder, Die Versöhnung, which had also been translated as De Broeders), or a translation of The Brothers, a tragedy by Edward Young (1753). Another likely possibility would be Shirley's comedy, The Brothers (1763).
