In January 1994 Die Bosflerrie se Bostent-teater (the Bush Flirt’s Bush Tent Theatre) was opened by actor Lourens Swanepoel next to a lion park in Randburg, Johannesburg and its target audience was specifically the more conservative, traditional Afrikaners.

At the time Swanepoel told Afrikaans newspaper Die Burger that the theatre is intended exclusively for Afrikaans-language productions.
