iVirgin Boy won the 2005 Pansa Drama Award, and is founded in fact - like Bonhoeffer. Krummeck again uses the defence of humour that prevents either play from sliding into morbid despair by deftly engaging audience empathy and laughter.
iVirgin Boy stars Bruce Little, whose performance as the boy, Alan, has been described as "a highlight. riveting and skilled". Bruce `doubles` as Counsel for the Defence, forcing the actor to argue against himself.
Internationally acclaimed Denise Newman plays opposite as Alan`s therapist. Denise was largely instrumental in making sure that iVirgin Boy saw the light of day. She also plays Alan`s mother, highlighting the distinction between unconditional parental love and the clinical distance required by therapy.
In a range of critical cameo roles, Martin Kintu and Aldridge Olivier have been commended for their versatility and their ability to slip effortlessly from one character to the next.
Performances for both plays are at 20.15 and there are also some matinee and early evening performances. Booking is through Computicket on 083 915 8000 or the Baxter Theatre Centre on 021 680 3989. For discounted block bookings, charities and special show-and-dinner packages, call Sharon on 021 680 3962 during office hours.
