The newly created Afrikaans word Aardklop means something like "Pulse of the Earth", and was used as the name for a national Afrikaans arts festival held in Potchefstroom, Northwestern Province (formerly Transvaal) during late September, beginning October every year.
The festival was conceived at meeting in Stellenbosch in 1996, and the first one took place in Potchefstroom in 1998.
