(19*-) Anthropologist and lecturer, playwright. Born in Windburg in the Orange Free State and grew up on a farm near Dewetsdorp. She lectured Anthroplogy and Archaeology at the University of South Africa for 15 years, as well as at the University of of Johannesburg and from 2013 at the University of the Free State. In 2009 she completed a master's thesis called: Childhood: An Anthropological Study of Itinerancy and Domestic Fluidity Amongst the Karretjie People of the South African Karoo through UNISA. This thesis was read by Athol Fugard and the research became the basis of his collaborative play with Steyn, called Die Laaste Karretjiegraf (2013)
