CODESA or the Convention for a Democratic South Africa was a negotiating forum set up under the chairmanship of the ANC’s Cyril Ramaphosa and the NP’s Roelf Meyer to produce a new constitutional dispensation in South Africa at the end of 1991 and leading to the first democratic general elections in 1994, after some deadlocks had been solved.
