The aims are inter alia to unite members with common interests and to promote and protect interests and status of members, encourage the development of new managements, exchange and share information between all members, develop audiences, through a shared marketing strategy, promote and protect growth and diversity of theatre producers, promoters and managers. Specifically also to monitor, debate and lobby for or against laws and other regulations affecting the live theatre, formulate a code of ethics in the theatre industry and profession, negotiate terms of employment, and to formulate and regulate policy regarding the relationship between members and their employees. The association seeks to facilitate resolutions of disputes in theatrical matters, obtain legal advice to assist members to conduct their businesses in accordance with legislation and theatre practice, establish and support industry social welfare programmes, establish liaison with training organisations, community theatre initiatives, government structures and funding institutions.
