Subtitled "'n Spel van Anachronismes en 'n Anachronisme" ("a play of anachronisms and an anachronism"), it is a highly comical, almost burlesque, satire that was commissioned by the [[National Theatre Organisation]] and was first performed by them in Bloemfontein during the [[Union Festival]] of 1960.

The text was published under the full title of ''[[Koning-Eenoog of Nie vir Geleerdes. 'n Spel van Anachronismes en 'n Anachronisme]]'' ("King One-eye, or Not for the Learned. A game of anchronisms and an anachronism") by [[Tafelberg Uitgewers]] in 1963. It was apparently also published under the more familiar title of ''[[Nie vir Geleerdes]]'' by  [[Nasionale Boekhandel Bpk.]] in  1963.
