History
Formerly the Johannesburg Normal College. It changed its name to the Johannesburg Teachers College in 1936. In the 1940s the name was changed again to the Johannesburg College of Education (JCE). The JCE moved to its current site in Parktown in 1978.
In 1991 JCE amalgamated with the former Pretoria College of Education. The JCE was incorporated within the University of the Witwatersrand in 2001 as the Wits School of Education.

Performance venue
The Space Frame Theatre was located at the JCE.
