Atlas of Remote Islands is a contemporary opera by composer Nathan Hall with the libretto by Alan Olejniczak.

The original text

Based on the 2009 book by Judith Schalansky. Atlas of Remote Islands is a contemporary story of self discovery through armchair travel on the pages of a mysterious book.

The opera, a collaboration with the singers of Opera on Tap Colorado and librettist Alan Olejniczak, premiered on Friday, May 5 2023 at MCA Denver’s Holiday Theater.

Performance history in South Africa

2025: Presented by Cape Town Opera at the Wave Theatre as part of Cape Town Opera Shorts: a Festival of Short Operas!. Directed by Jackï Job, featuring Cape Town Opera’s Judith Neilson Young Artists, as well as Marcelle Steinmetz, with musical direction by Jan Hugo and Nathan Lewis at the piano, with production design by Allegra Bernacchioni, video design by Kirsti Cumming, lighting design by Luke Ellenbogen.
