Le Commissaire est Bon Enfant ("The Chief is a nice fellow") is a French comedy in one act by Georges Courteline (1858-1929)[1] and Jules Lévy,

The original text

First presented on 16 December 1899 in the on December 16, 1899 at the Théâtre du Gymnase Marie Bell in Paris and at the Théâtre Antoine on 9 February, 1900.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Afrikaans as Die Stasiebevelvoerder by Fred le Roux (published by DALRO, 1990)

Performance history in South Africa

1978: Performed in Afrikaans as Die Stasiebevelvoerder by students of the Stellenbosch University Drama Department in the H.B. Thom Theatre in October.
