Biography
Joan Cohen born Joan Shaper, was educated at Muizenberg Primary school and Wynberg Girls High School in Cape Town. She trained at Barkley College as a kindergarten teacher, modeled for in-house designer company, owned Gallery 709 art gallery in Bree Street and later, Quincys Antiques in Rondebosch. The Cape Times ran her regular column on children's book reviews and travel. Married architect Lionel George Cohen in 1947 and had three children and five grandchildren.
