Charles Leonard is an actor (1874?-1916)

Biography

Leonard was a Jewish revue artist and actor. He toured the platteland with "'Afrikaner' impersonations, conjuring, bell-ringing, Japanese juggling, chapeaugraphy and xylophone playing".

He died following an injury in a bar fight during rehearsals for Van Kalabas Does His Bit on 28 October 1916 at the age of 42.

The part of Van Kalabas in Van Kalabas Does His Bit had been written for Leonard by Stephen Black. He also played the role of Goldstein in Black's Helena's Hope, Ltd.
