Founded in 1925 when RA Shooter joins LG Shuter as new co-owner of Vause, Slatter & Co., a bookstore, in Pietermaritzburg. The name is changed to Shuter & Shooter at this time. It is particularly focused on educational material and in 1930 they also begin publishing isiZulu novels, poetry, plays and textbooks. They alter also include other indigenous South African languages[1], including English and Afrikaans.
