The Imvaba Arts Association was established in Port Elizabeth in 1986 during the apartheid era when the State of Emergency was declared. It worked closely with artists in New Brighton, Kwazakhele and Motherwell townships. This community organisation aimed to promote and assist artists through the use of workshops and exhibitions.
