Origins
Founded in 1959 by authors and publishers Koos Human (1931-)[2] and Leon Rousseau (1931–2016)[3], the business initially focused on publishing new wrting in Afrikaans, but later started publishing broader based South African works, in both Afrikaans and in English.
In the 1980s it also founded a subsidiary imprint called H&R Academica Uitgewers to publish books for school and university use.
It became part of the Naspers publishing empire in 19**.
