He started out writing poems as a schoolboy, but later shifted to plays. Using the nom de plume of Meyhendi Zhann he wrote a number of pieces, most of them unpublished. The best known are the detective melodrama Wanneer Plig Moet Swig ("When duty must give way", a 2nd edition published 1935) and Gedwarsboom ("thwarted") behandel die gevolge van ’n konflik na aanleiding van standverskil. Hy skryf verskeie ander ongepubliseerde dramas.
