Harold Julius (b. Rochford, England, 17/12/1919 – d. South Africa, 04/04/1980) was a cameraman.

Biography

Harold Arthur Julius worked at Ealing Studios in England during the mid-1940s, initially as an uncredited focus puller but later as cameraman on a number of features, including the classic horror portmanteau Dead of Night (1945) and Robert Hamer’s Pink String and Sealing Wax (1945). He came to South Africa as director of photography on Pantoffel-regering (1947) at the invitation of its director, Ronald Brantford, with whom he had worked on four Ealing films. It remained his only local feature film and it is not known what became of him, although he was a participant in an exhibition organised by the South African Academy of Art in 1947. In any case, he seems to have stayed on in South Africa and he died there in April 1980. He was survived by his wife Myra Vera Julius (née Savinson), whom he had married in 1943.
