The original text
Described also as a serio-comic piece in some issues, it featured the author as the leading character of the milkman in the first performance at the Prince of Wales Theatre, Liverpool on 20 June 1864.
It was also performed by another company at the Olympic Theatre New York on 21 November 1864.
The only published version of the original text to be readily found is that by H. Roorbach, new York, in 1889.
