He was married to Rosalind Iden. He was the last of the British actor-managers in the barnstorming tradition.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Leon Gluckman and Colin Fish presented an evening of Shakespeare at the Playhouse in Johannesburg in which Sir Donald and Lady Wolfit (the actress Rosalind Iden) appeared in 1962. This was followed by The Master Builder, giving the actor an opportunity to repeat one of his best-known roles.
