The Amazons is a farcical romance by Arthur W. Pinero (1855-1934)[1].

The original text
First performed at the Royal Court Theatre on March 7, 1893 and subsequently also played at the Lyceum Theatre in 1894.
Translations and adaptations
In 1917 it was adapted as an American silent film of the same name, directed by Joseph Kaufman.

1900: Performed at the Opera House in Cape Town in 1900. The comedian Charles Arnold played the role of the Frenchman de Grival. (Wrongly referred to as The Amazona by D.C. Boonzaier, as cited by F.C.L. Bosman: p. 408).
