Captain Heaven was a member of the British forces in Cape Town and a minstrelsy performer.
Referred to as "Coloured Captain" Heaven by F.C.L. Bosman (1980: p. 167), he was apparently the organizer of the African Minstrels troupe of performers, which - judging by the title - may have been drawn from a division of African military personnel.
