The original text
Apparently an original Dutch play, available in the 19th century, though the only reference to the play is found in F.C.L. Bosman (1928, p. 252). It was most probably a version of De Onverwagte Ontmoeting, of De Verzamelaar van Natuurlyke Zeldzaamheden (by an anonymous translator, published by P. Meijer en G. Warnars, 1786), a Dutch translation of the German play Der Antiquitätensammler , itself probably based on La famiglia dell'antiquario by Carlo Goldoni (1749).

1826: Performed in Cape Town on 31 March by Door Yver Vruchtbaar in the African Theatre, with Pachter Veldkomyn van Tippelskerken, of Het door List verbroken Huwelyk (Von Kotzebue)
