De Vriend der Kinderen is a collection of plays for young people (in 8 volumes), possibly a Dutch translation of Théâtre à l'Usage des Jeunes Personnes, ou Théâtre de l'Éducation ("Theatre for use by young people, or theatre for education"), by Madame de Genlis (1746–1830)[1], though J. Suasso de Lima(F.C.L. Bosman, 1928[2], p. 346) seems to suggest that it was originally a German collection).

The volumes were a source of plays for a number of Cape Town companies, notably the school run by De Lima himself.
