Elize van Wallenthorst is an original Dutch play in three acts by an anonymous author.

The original text
A melodramatic play about the triumph of virtue. A young girl who runs away with an unsuitable man and is chased by her father and a noble suitor, who saves the father's life and wins the girl. Published in 1794.

Performance history in South Africa
1835: Produced in Dutch by the Het Tooneellievend en Vereenigd Muzyk Gezelschap (with the motto Door Yver Vruchtbaar) in Stellenbosch on 7 March, with De Brandschatting (Von Kotzebue) as afterpiece. The performance was a charity event for the wounded of the so-called "Kaffir War" on the eastern Cape border.
