H.L. Gonin Henri Louis Gonin (1906-1997), former Professor in Classical Studies at the University of Pretoria where he later became the Head of the Department of Latin and later Dean of the Faculty of Arts. He was a founding member of the Classical Association of South Africa.

He was the author of the first Latin Grammar in Afrikaans.

He translated the French drama Les Corbeaux into Afrikaans as Die Aasvoëls.
