Les Frères à l'Épreuve ("The brothers tested") is a prose play in 3 acts by Benoît Pelletier-Volméranges.
Contents
The original play
First performed in the Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin, Paris, on 6 September 1806. Published in Paris by Setier, 1806.
Translations and adaptations
Translated into Dutch as De Broeders Op Den Toets by Cornelis van der Vijver, published in Amsterdam in 1807 by Van Esveldt Holtrop.
Performance history in South Africa
1818: Performed in Cape Town on 23 May 1818 by Tot Nut en Vermaak, with the one-act farce Het Misverstand, of Elk is Een Dief in Zyn Neering ("K")
1825: Performed in Dutch as De Broeders Op Den Toets by Tot Nut en Vermaak on 4 June in the African Theatre, with as afterpiece Uilenspiegel (Von Kotzebue).
