The original text
Based on Kenilworth. A Romance, the historical novel by Sir Walter Scott, first published on 8 January 1821, it was one of a number of adaptations done over the years under a variety of tiles. It was dramatized by Planché and first performed at the Adelphi Theatre on 9 February, 1821.

1832: Performed in South Africa as Kenilworth, or The Days of Queen Bess ("a drama in four acts") for the first time on 11 August by the All the World's a Stage in the African Theatre, with as afterpiece Catherine and Petruchio, or The Taming of the Shrew (Shakespeare).
