According to the National Library of South Africa[1] list of microfilms[2], a journal entitled the South African Chronicle was published in Cape Town in 1844.

More widely known was the South African Chronicle and Mercantile Advertiser (also colloquially referred to as the South African Chronicle) published in Cape Town for three years (1824-1826).
