Described as a "serio-comic-bombastick-operatick interlude", it was first performed in London at the Theatre Royal (the English Opera House, afterwards the Lyceum) on Tuesday, July 21, 1818, and published in 1818, soon after the performance, by W. and J. Lowndes, and going into two editions.

1830: Performed in the Cape Town Theatre, South Africa by All the World's a Stage on 4 September as afterpiece to George Barnwell, or The London Apprentice (Lillo).
