The original text
The play is about a neurotic, middle-aged woman, her crippled son, and his sexually seething young wife who await the return of Rosebloom, the father of the family, who has been in prison for twenty-six years.
First presented at the Mark Taper Forum in 1970, where it was awarded the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award, and then an important Off-Broadway production. The text published by Dramatists Play Service, 1972.
