Gerrit Dekker (1897- 19**) was an academic and critic.

He was professor of Afrikaans Literature at the University of Potchefstroom for CHE and author of a number of works on South African literature.

His best known book was Afrikaanse Literatuurgeskiedenis ("Afrikaans Literary History") (1935, 1967)[1]
