Shared History is is an annual festival which showcases the best of contemporary arts and culture from the Indian subcontinent in South Africa, in a way which explores the shared artistic bond and cultural history of the two countries and their recent pasts.
Begun in 2007, the festival is brought to the country by Teamwork Arts in collaboration with the High Commission of India in South Africa and is presented in Durban and Johannesburg over a period of 4-6 weeks, usually between the months of August to October. The hallmark of the festival has always been its focus on Music, Dance, Theatre and Literature, but increasingly there have been other additions, such as Yoga, Food, Handicrafts, Textiles and Comedy.
