The ''[[South African Journal]]'', founded in Cape Town in 1824 by [[Thomas Pringle]] and [[John Fairbairn]], was the first English-language magazine in the colony. A magazine, which like their other joint project, the ''[[The South African Commercial Advertiser]]'', was to provide a vivid overview of life at the Cape in those years, and would also suffer suppression and censorship from the Colonial government.
