The original text
First performed at the Théâtre Edouard VII in Paris in 1970, with mise en scène by Jacques Charon; published in French by l'Avant-scène, 1970.
Filmed stage version broadcast on television in 1972 ("Au théâtre ce soir", mise en scène Jacques Charon, réalisation Pierre Sabbagh, Théâtre Marigny).
Translations and adaptations
Translated into Afrikaans by Philip Combrinck as Dubbelspel met die Dood ("Doubles Match with Death"). Translation unpublished, but the text held by the National Drama Library.
Performance history in South Africa
1974: Staged in Afrikaans as Dubbelspel met die Dood by PACT, directed by Aubrey Berg, featuring Jan Engelen (Richard/Michel), Lerina Erasmus (Francoise), Trudie Taljaard (Louise), David van der Merwe (Sartoni), Cobus Visser (Kommissaris), Zack du Plessis (Polisieman) and André Labuschagne (Polisieman). Decor by Richard Cook.
