An iconic and stereotypical South African “coloured” stage character, first appearing in the George Rex and Andrew Bain sketch ''Kaatje Kekkelbek, or Life Among the Hottentots''(Grahamstown, 183*). The name has become synonomous with the loquatious and forward “(Cape) coloured” house-maid.
