A farce in two acts by Thomas Dibdin (Thomas John Dibdin, 1771–1841)

Written Past 10 o'Clock and a Rainy Night by F.C.L. Bosman (1928), possibly based on the Cape Town programmes.

The original text

First performed in the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in 1815. Published by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown, 1815.

Performance history in South Africa

1828: Performed by the English Theatrical Amateur Company on 8 November 1828 in the African Theatre, along with The Mayor of Garrett (Foote) and Sharp and Flat (Lawler).

1837: A production in Cape Town by the English Amateur Company was planned for 11 September 1837, but for a number of reasons postponed a few times and finally performed 18 September 1837, in the Cape Town Theatre, as afterpiece to Bertram, or The Castle of St. Aldobrand‎ (Maturin).
