Later in the 19th century it played an important part in theatrical activities, when an the exhibition hall evolved from the Lodge in 1875. Formally named the Good Hope Exhibition Hall and Theatre it was more popularly referred to simply as the Exhibition Hall or the Exhibition Theatre.
