On his way to Mauritius or the East, he apparently stopped at Cape Town to perform on two occasions. He is first mentioned as performing from 29 October 1803 onwards till the end of 1804. He appeared in a number of shows for the French Company run by Charles Mathurin Villet. Apparently versatile he would play two or three roles a night. On 12 August 1804 he did the clown in Arlequin Protege par Belphegor at the African Theatre.
