Performance history in South Africa
First performed 21 September 1963 at the Little Theatre directed by Robert Möhr and performed by the EOAN Group under guidance of Helen Southern Holt. It was subsequently staged at in Shreveport, Louisiana in the United States in 1966, again directed by Robert Mohr.
The debut of the musical version by the EOAN Group was at the Nico Malan Theatre on 18 January 1986. It was produced and designed by Cedric-John Adamson. Choreography was by Henry Paulse, assisted by Elizabeth Howard. Musical direction was by Cecil Peters.
